I never planned on being a pastor. But God relentlessly pursued me with His grace until I gave in. Years back, I was living far from God—a reminder that continues to motivate me to help others find their way. I spent 12 years in college ministry in West Virginia, Louisiana, and North Carolina before God called me to plant a church. My family has called Raleigh home since 1998. My wife, Cinda, and I have three daughters: Molly, Abby, and Lexi.

My wife Christine and I have been mission partners with Devoted City since 2019, and I joined staff in 2023. I served in public education administration in Ohio for 22 years, served as Executive Pastor at churches in Ohio and Florida for a total of 8 years, and served with Christian Financial Resources for 4 years. I am excited for what God has done and will do through Devoted City Church to help people find, trust, and follow Jesus. We have been married since 1989 and have 4 children and 4 grandchildren. Living most of our lives in Ohio has caused us to be avid Ohio State Buckeye fans!

I was born and raised in Danville, Virginia, but I always knew I’d call Raleigh my home eventually. Our family loves it here! I studied music at Liberty University and attended Word of Life Bible Institute the years before that. Sarah and I were married in 2012 and we have 3 kids – Charis, Logan, and Emory. We also have a Black Labrador named Oliver. I love coffee, guitars, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and taking as many family beach trips as we can. Our family loves Devoted City Church and we are grateful that God called us here. I joined the Devoted City team in 2019 as the Worship Arts Pastor. My heartbeat is that worship would be so much more than a song to our church as we pursue a life devoted to Christ.

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.”
C.S. Lewis.
Serving others in ministry was never a desire for me as a young child, but God grabbed a hold of my heart and I have loved helping others foster and nurture their relationship with Jesus ever since.
I have served in many different ministries since 2013. Along the way, I grabbed my Bachelors in Preaching and Church Leadership from Johnson University and my Masters of Divinity from Liberty University. Along with serving in the local church, I have worked as a Chaplain Candidate in the Army Reserves since 2021. My day is made when I have a warm beverage on my porch at my apartment, grabbing sushi and cheesecake with my beautiful wife, Shelby, and chatting about sports, especially European soccer.
Shelby and I are grateful to be serving at Devoted City and pray God continues to deepen your love for Him!

I have lived in Raleigh since 1991. Me and my wife Kim have two children, Nick and Elizabeth. I started following Jesus in 1982 but never imagined being a pastor. For 18 years I served as an IBM software engineer, loving the work and the people I did it with. Through a difficult season of healing, I grew in trusting Jesus to lead me day to day – and my mission became helping others find that same comfort and purpose. In 2005, God led me to carry that mission into leadership at Devoted City. I love introducing people to Jesus and helping them grow in their faith, no matter where they are in their journey.

I grew up near the coast of northeast North Carolina and have lived most of my life in our state. I was a campus ministry with Campus Christian Fellowship at NC State University and also served as head basketball coach and athletic director for about 6 years before God called me back into full-time ministry. I am a huge sports fan and especially love college basketball. My wife Laura and I love connecting with people and helping them connect with God.
Our Beliefs
Grace
God's grace is available to all who call upon the Lord. No one deserves God's grace, yet he gives it freely to all who deny self and surrender to Christ.
Titus 2:11-12, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 3:23-24
Jesus
Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, who died for our sins and rose from the dead.
1 Corinthians 15:1–8; John 3:16
Salvation
Salvation is a gift from God to man. Forgiveness of sins and the promise of eternal life are available to those who trust Christ as Savior and Lord. Those accepting Christ repent of sin, confess their faith, and are baptized into Him.
John 3:16; Romans 10:9; Acts 2:38
Mankind
Every person has worth as a creation of God, but all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.
Romans 3:23
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is equal with the Father and the Son as God. He is present in the world to make people aware of their need for Jesus Christ. He also lives in every Christian from the moment of salvation. He provides the Christian with power for living, understanding of spiritual truth, and guidance in doing what is right. The Christian seeks to live under His control daily.
2 Corinthians 3:17; John 16:7–13; John 14:16–17; 1 Corinthians 2:12; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 1:13; Galatians 5:25; Ephesians 5:18
The Bible
The Bible in its entirety is the inspired, inerrant, and infallible Word of God in its original manuscripts. The original writers were and are unlike any other writers, as they were given special guidance by the Holy Spirit to write down God’s revelation of Himself to humankind. Therefore, we accept the Bible as the final authority for all matters of faith and practice.
2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20,21; Proverbs 30:5; Psalm 119:105
Creation
God created the Earth and everything in it. Genesis 1:1-31, Genesis 2:1-25, Hebrews 11:3, Colossians 1:16
God created man and woman, separate genders assigned by him and made them equal in dignity, value, and worth as image bearers of him. Genesis 1:27, Genesis 2:7, Isaiah 45:12
By God's design, life begins at conception, an unborn baby is an image bearer of our Holy God. Psalm 51:5-6; 139:13-16, Isaiah 49:1, Jeremiah 1:5, Luke 1:15
God created marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, and created sex only for married couples. Genesis 2:18-25, Galatians 5:16-24
The Church
The Church is the body of Christ on earth, empowered by the Holy Spirit, and is obligated to share Christ in a relevant way with those who do not know Him, serve the helpless, and give hope to the hopeless.
Ephesians 4:1–16; James 1:26–27
Eternity
Jesus Christ will one day return to earth and reign forever as King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Man was created to exist forever. He will either exist eternally separated from God by sin or in union with God through forgiveness and salvation. To be eternally separated from God is Hell. To be eternally in union with Him is eternal life. Heaven and Hell are places of eternal existence.
1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; John 3:16; 1 John 2:25; 1 John 5:11–13; Romans 6:23; Revelation 20:15
