Biblical Counseling Certification Course
The Devoted City Training Center
Devoted City is a training center in partnership with the Association of Biblical Counselors. Rob Perry, our Biblical Counseling & Care Pastor, is a Level 2 Certified Biblical Counselor with ABC, and is a certified training leader for ABC’s Equipped to Counsel course.

Course Description
This 9-month class is designed to equip followers of Christ with the ability to apply the gospel in personal and specific ways to the heart and struggles of others. We will address both the theology and practice of gospel-centered care. Space is limited.
Who is this training for?
This course is designed for Christ Followers who are seeking to love others well wherever God has placed them. This training is beneficial across a wide variety of roles, responsibilities and relationships: Formal (Licensed Professional Counselor, Lay Counselor, Pastor, Church or Para-ministry Staff), Informal (Small Group Leader, Ministry Leader, Mentor /Coach) basically Anybody who interacts with people on a daily basis and wants to care for people well.

When and Where?
October 2026 – June 2027
Training will combine self-study, online discussion and monthly learning labs (mix of virtual and in-person). These sessions are optional but are meant to enhance discussion of case studies and soul care related topics. You will be responsible to complete and submit all necessary assignments required for certification.
Registration Options
Option 1: The Association of Biblical Counselors Certification Track
- National Level 1 Certification through the Association of Biblical Counselors
- Membership to The Assocation of Biblical Counselors along with all member benefits.
- Course materials, proctoring of assignments, practicum coaching and supervision.
- Access to the Monthly Learning Lab
- Registration to Called to Counsel conference
- Cost: $575
Option 2: Devoted City Church Certificate of Completion Track
- Course materials, proctoring of assignments (if desired). Students may complete all assignments to earn a Certificate of Completion from Devoted City Church or participate in the training without completing assignments. Choose the level of work that best fits your needs.

Students Will:
- Develop a biblical philosophy of counseling that emphasizes the call of all believers to take part in the work of counseling and discipleship.
- Develop a biblical philosophy of the Christian life that includes active involvement in a community of believers.
- Have access to a Certified Biblical Counselor mentor/coach
- Attend monthly Learning Labs
- Engage with other students via online discussions.
- Understand the basic meaning of biblical counseling.
- Acquire a basic understanding of the general and specific methods of biblical counseling.
- Cover various counseling related issues that include depression, anger, anxiety, addiction, and sexuality.
- Develop a genuine love for others, and an active, daily prayer life.
Certification Track Details
Soul Care Practicum
Mid-way through the class, the students will be required to disciple an individual or couple for ten weeks. Soul care meetings may take place in-person or video, but it should be in a private setting.
Reading & Journaling
Each week’s assignment will include articles and additional resources for further learning and personal development. During the second semester, in addition to the required practicum, a biblical counseling journal will be used to record and document student development and growth while practicing and applying what is being learned in a biblical counseling session.
Requirements
Course participants are expected to complete all weekly readings, assignments, teachings and class discussions. Estimated time to completion is 8-9 months with a commitment of at least 5 hours weekly. In order to retain certification, students must remain an ABC member.
