Helping students find, trust, and follow Jesus.

The Cameron Wagner Memorial Scholarship

Cameron Wagner, a sophomore at Western Carolina University was following in his father’s footsteps by pursuing a degree in engineering.  In April, 2008, he died in a motorcycle accident near his home in Cullowhee.  Cameron lived every day to the fullest and had become an ambitious young man working a full-time managerial job on campus while taking a full course load in engineering.  He maintained a private home up on the mountain and had recently adopted his very first pet, a yellow lab named Cooper.

From day one, Cameron was comfortable in the church setting, many days tagging along with his mother, who was the music director.  As he grew, Cameron participated in Sunday School, Youth Group, mission trips and community service through the YMCA Indian Guide program. Cameron was baptized as an infant and confirmed his relationship with Jesus Christ as a teen.

To enable his dreams and aspirations to live on in other young people, his parents, David & Cindy Wagner, together with Grant and Caroline, his brother and sister, have established the Cameron Wagner Memorial Scholarship Fund to provide educational scholarships to high school seniors who are active in Devoted City’s High School Community.

Scholarship Information

The scholarship will provide the student(s) with $1,500 to cover school related expenses during their first year in school. Funds will be distributed directly to the school’s tuition office unless other arrangements are made.

Selection Criteria

The following selection criteria will be utilized by the scholarship coordinator or scholarship committee of Devoted City Church when reviewing applications and selecting recipients. The student(s) selected to recieve the Cameron Wagner memorial Scholarship must:

  • Be a graduating high school senior associated with Devoted City Church and active in Devoted City’s High School community,
  • Possess a grade point average of 3.0 or above,
  • Participate in school, church, and/or community activities,
  • and reflect the Christian characteristics described in Romans 12:1-2 and 1 Timothy 4:12.

Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.

Romans 12:1-2

Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.

1 Timothy 4:12
